Little old me

Hi there.

My name is Val and I am a ‘shopaholic’ and a fashion addict – there I have said it!!!

I have always strived to make the most of myself, albeit there is slightly more of me at the moment, (thanks to something called a pandemic) working from home does that (too close to biscuit tin) and no spin classes (gym shut)……… don’t even get me started on the hairdressers being shut!!! Apologies, I digress, let’s get back to the subject in hand.

Fashion has always been my passion, from taking classes in dressmaking (I made some fairly wearable stuff), to reading about it (have a bookcase full of books on designers, fashion trends, guides to quality, taste and style, anything and everything really) and repeatedly watching shows, films and Youtube videos (Project Runway, McQueen, Yves St Laurent, Next in Fashion) …. you name it, I have watched it and still have them on my WatchList.

However, all of this resulted in an unhealthy obsession in buying, constantly (sometimes the most inappropriate things). I know how to dress, always have done but… I saw, I wanted, I had to have – resulting in wardrobes and drawers being crammed full with clothes, bags, shoes (hundreds, last count 20 pairs of black ankle boots!!!) and the accessories (boxes upon boxes)……….. aaarrrgghh.

Since I had more time on my hands (pandemic), I needed to address this. I was out of control. I decided to enrol on a Professional Styling course ; why you may ask…my rational for this was – it looked really interesting, it was about something I loved, it would keep me occupied (therefore stop me buying more clothes etc) and, who knows I might even learn something.

Well, I did learn something. I learnt I don’t need 20 pairs of black ankle boots, 25 winter coats……… I will stop there, I am having a panic attack just thinking about them. I also learnt to do colour analysis (mine), then most of my friends, I studied body shapes (mine included- now day 3 of diet), what to wear and I detoxed/culled my wardrobe (AGAIN), this time for good. Et voila – a ‘capsule’ wardrobe, with all I could possibly need.

I even got a diploma for my efforts.

I can finally call myself a Fashion/Personal Stylist.

I am 55 years old/young, I like dressing up, I I even have my first ever dressing room). I know what I like and if I look good in it, I’m wearing it, so there – as Coco Chanel once said ‘Ageing is a state of mind. One must keep enthusiasm and curiosity’
