So, yesterday I was in the City Centre of Glasgow, for the first time in what seems like forever. It was great to see people out again in the sunshine, mulling around shops and for me it was a good chance to see just what everyone was wearing. The favoured look amongst many, the long duster style coats with above ankle jeans/ trousers and trainers and either cross body bags or massive big slouch bags. (I myself had on a brown pvc coat, wide leg trousers and a shirt and some lace up brogues).
On my travels I visited Fraser’s where I was bombarded with various cards with perfumes, the Spritzer boy liked my coat and told me I looked like I was just the type of person who would wear this new fragrance…. mmm, that would be a ‘mug’ – at £105 a bottle. I found nothing of interest in this shop, I always did feel it was a bit up it’s own a*** and I never felt I was worthy of shopping here, the clothes and shoes were totally overpriced, way out of my budget and having only really been able to shop online over the past couple of years, I can now sniff out a bargain, the stench I had from here was pretty foul and not bargain – like.
Next stop, Princes Sq, another bit of window shopping. In French Connection the assistant also said she liked my coat, ASOS I informed her, cheap and cheerful and in the OUTLET, like the perfume Spritzer ,she also loved ASOS, saying you could get some great bargains online, something this store was sadly lacking, I therefore wished her a nice day and left.
I was meeting my cousin for lunch. Into ‘October’ we went. Nice staff and atmosphere, really chilled, the food was lovely, albeit I did think £15.99 for 4 pieces of monkfish scampi, some crinkle cut chips, a scoop of pea puree and some mayo, was a tad pricey.
After lunch, I escorted him back to his gallery and had another wander around, no bargains to be had here…………………… I was almost tempted to buy a pen from the aptly named ‘PEN’ shop, only because they were half price!!!
To save myself from temptation I took myself down to the lower floor, to ‘Everyman’ cinema/cafe. There are seats outside and it makes for great people watching . I ordered myself a nice large glass of white, paid by card, (as is their preference) and settled down to enjoy the view. On checking my bank balance this morning I found out the view cost me £9.20, it wasn’t that bloody good!! Bit of a shock to the system as last time I was in town drinking the finer establishments were charging about £7.50 a glass, this is a cinema charging this!!!
Remember a few years back we were all told ‘people make Glasgow’ – yeah, it seems we really do, we have made it greedy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have never been a tighta*** when it comes to money, that’s why I have none, however I do like to see something for it when I spend it, with that in mind I am in no hurry to go back into city centre, there is nothing in any of these shops that I would want to buy that I can’t find the equivalent or better of online and I certainly wont be paying £9.20 again for a glass of wine, no matter how much I like the ambience of the place.
