What would Holly Golightly wear today?

Holly Go-Lightly, (she feels the hyphen gives her an air of sophistication), sits on a bench in Central Park, wearing mom jeans, a Breton and loafers (her mature student look), she sits with her legs crossed, sipping from a smoothie and reading (with her Tiffany glasses on) a battered copy of War and Peace that she recovered from her leather satchel – unbeknownst to the casual observer, her glasses have no lenses and her book is only a cover hiding ‘Forever Chic’, her bible for looking fabulous.

· Holly has a rescue dog she got from the pound, she named him Mr Patkany, Hungarian for Mr ‘rat’ . She knew both the dog and his name would be a topic of conversation.

· She lives in a flat on the Upper East Side, her walls are adorned with prints of faraway, exotic places and her coffee table has strategically placed books on topics such as travel, décor and fashion, she hasn’t read any of them, merely flicked through the pages and taken note of anything she could pretend to wax lyrical on.

· When she is home alone, she is no longer on show, the mask comes off and the pretence is gone, she goes back to her country girl roots, wearing a chambray playsuit, some cute KG sneakers and her hair held back in a summery headscarf. This look is cute and playful and requires no styling.

· She enjoys walking along Fifth Avenue, looking in shop windows for the latest trends or visiting the Guggenheim museum, for these outings she opts for a flirty, casual but chic look (some may say Parisien), with many layers, including a coloured trench , some flared jeans, a simple top, her Tiffany silver chunky bracelets, sneakers and a bright cross body bag, she also has her trusted bucket hat (she needs her hands free for shopping bags, not an umbrella).

· Holly has a capsule wardrobe, but you would never know, as no two outfits look the same. She uses statement accessories, taking inspiration from Anna Wintour’s chunky crystal necklaces, a modern day take on pearls, big chunky earrings, clutches, hats ,fingerless leather and diamante gloves and of course big, statement sunglasses.

· For ladies who lunch, she opts for ‘woman of substance’, wearing skinny leather trousers, killer heels, a big chunky knit jumper, wide brimmed floppy hat and in her rather large designer tote bag, sits Mr Patkany, wearing his Chanel collar. This look can be dressed up or down for any occasion.

· She hopes to draw admiring glances when she goes to the opening of…….a new art exhibition, fashion show, anything that is free and has champagne and rich and influential people flowing. She wears a knee length bright pink taffeta cocktail dress accessorised with Dolce and Gabbana jewel encrusted headband and matching earrings. This shows she is fun, has her own style and doesn’t conform to stereotype.

· She invites ‘ friends’ to her apartment, telling them her SMEG fridge/freezer is overflowing with Veuve Clicquot champagne, as that is all she drinks. The reality is she has one bottle of champagne (she will never open this) and serves them Cava all night (they are none the wiser).

· Every girl must have an LBD. In Holly’s case it’s not a Little Black Dress but a Lavish Black Dress, made by Alexander McQueen, ( their personalities are not dissimilar, flirty, daydreamers, flamboyant, quirky, bit flaky and like to get their own way). She wears the dress in her own unique way, teaming it up with some red and black floral ankle boots and matador style AMCQ jacket, which is quite appropriate as she is a fighter, fighting to get noticed in a society she doesn’t belong to.
