Good afternoon all.
What a difference a day makes, in this part of the world anyway. Yesterday, I was out in the sun reading (after work), today, indoors, all wrapped up, hot chocolate beside me…. still reading though!!
Anyone who knows me, knows I love reading, particularly fashion biographies, I don’t just read them , I inhale them, soaking up every juicy detail, Alexander McQueen’s has been read about half a dozen times, for 2 reasons.
1. I love it and
2. I am old and have a menopausal brain, that doesn’t retain as much information as it used to (and that wasn’t a lot).
Right now I have 2 books on the go (I know, multi-tasking, they said it could never be done!).

2 completely different genres.
The biography of Isabella Blow, who was once heralded as the career maker of Alexander McQueen (Givenchy, Gucci, McQueen and McQ) and Philip Treacy, milliner and the favoured creator of hats for the Elite (aka, those who can afford them), it’s a really good read and very well written.
My book of fiction, is just an easy to read ‘suspense/thriller’ and fairly enjoyable. I like easy to read fiction before going to sleep (I usually nod off and have to reread the next day, hence the reason I have been on Chapter 1 for about a month!!!)
I love books, nothing can compare to ‘that’ feeling, when you walk into a bookshop, the endless rows and rows of books, the picking up a book because it has an eye-catching cover, takes me back to going to the library with my dad all those years ago.
When I first started working, I had to use public transport (I know, the shame!!) – anyway, I actually used to hate when the journey ended, as whatever book of choice I was reading had to be returned to my bag, never to be seen again, well, not until the return journey home. All these years later, I find myself having, yet again, to use public transport for work, however, the good old days are gone, by the time I get my book out, change into whatever pair of glasses I require (distance/ close reading, not so close reading – WTF) the notion has worn off me and the journey has ended and……………………… HI-HO, HI-HO, it’s off to work we go.
Thankfully, I have my KINDLE, a very old KINDLE, and, whilst, it isn’t a good old-fashioned book ( nobody can claim it is), it is perfect for this reader on the move, it’s lightweight, has 300 books on it AND my GRAZIA magazine , plus I can actually read the print, without changing my glasses (I can change FONT size) .

I am sure there are a lot of people out there who already have a KINDLE, but, do you have KINDLE UNLIMITED? I wasn’t too sure about subscribing to begin with, I think it was initially £7.99, it’s now £9.49, however, you can have 10 titles any any given time, obviously you would have to be one really smart cookie to be able to read all 10 at once.
As with everything else, books are getting more expensive, what would have in the past been a £4.99/£5.99 book, is now £8.99/£9.99 and if it’s just an average, easy read book that I will read only once, then pass on elsewhere, I don’t really want to spend that amount. That’s why, when it comes to my ‘lazy’ reads, I am using my KINDLE UNLIMITED to download books onto my KINDLE . Already this month , my subscription has more than paid for itself. I read 2 books from my 10, The Bonfire of the Vanities (paperback £8.16) and The Holiday Home (paperback £7.99). Both of these were included in my UNLIMITED subscription and therefore cost me £0.00.

Apart from the train, my Kindle has air miles, she (it is a she) has it’s very own passport and always comes on holiday with me – if I have a choice of putting 3 books in my suitcase or an extra pair of shoes….. it’s a no-brainer (especially if it’s cabin luggage, did it once, never again!!)
If you are feeling like me, that the price tag of a book has become a tad high, you already have a KINDLE or are considering getting one , why not try UNLIMITED, if it’s not for you, you can unsubscribe………………………….
and if you do subscribe, why not try The Bonfire of the Vanities (a classic tale of 80’s greed and privilege, with Sherman McCoy at the steering wheel).
or The Holiday Home, a good Summer read.
Nice chatting.
