What I am reading

Jo Sorsby is hiding from her past when she agrees to run her uncle’s beloved stationery shop. Glimpsing the lives of her customers between the warm wooden shelves, as they scribble little notes and browse colourful notebooks, distracts her from her bruised heart.
When she meets Ruth, a vicar running from a secret, and Malcolm, a septuagenarian still finding himself, she suddenly realizes she isn’t alone.
They each have a story that can transform Jo’s life… if only she can let them in.

What I am watching
I loved the original film (1999) of this Patricia Highsmith novel. Matt Damon was superb as the main character ; even though we know Tom Ripley did some bad things, you still warmed to his character and felt some empathy for him. Jude Law also put in a fairly decent performance as Dickie, his over-privileged ‘friend’, with Gwyneth as the long-suffering girlfriend Marge.
This new adaptation from Netflix looks the part. I love the fact it’s in black and white, makes it all the more suspenseful and the scenery from the Amalfi coast is just amazing, however, I really do think, my opinion only, that Andrew Scott has been miscast as Tom Ripley, he just isnt subtle enough, Johnny Flynn and Dakota Fanning aren’t doing much for me either…… however, as I loved the original and the book and I am enjoying the scenery, I will plod on with this, in my marginal time.

What I am liking

Buying a load of second hand beachwear and holiday attire from Vinted, (as my own are a tad snug), it’s just too easy, it’s cheap and cheerful and quite exciting when they arrive, plus if the case is a bit full on return journey, just leave them, they didnt cost much!!!
