Back to school

I can remember the days when being told to wear my blazer to school was an absolute chore. Now, I look forward to it.

Spring/Summer 2022 has shops jammed pack full of them and thankfully, as this season is all about colour , the blazer is looking better than ever (previous seasons were all Ralph Lauren – esque, classic navy, nice at the time but the 80’s are long gone daaahhlliinngg).

I love shopping in Zara at the best of times, even though their sizes are a bit wonky, but the one thing Zara does really well, is inject colour into our wardrobes and lots of it.

These are just a snapshot of what’s in stock at the moment, from classic blazer style, to oversized, double breasted, textured, cropped, linen, cape and blazers with turned up cuffs, inverted or shawl collars.

Blazers are soooo versatile, they can be dressed up or down ……. try

A skort with a satin blouse for going out at night, jeans and tee for casual lunch and wander round the shops, man style shirt, corset, wide leg masculine trousers, culottes…. the list is endless and there are very few wardrobe staples you could actually make so many outfits around.

I chose Zara as an example of what’s out there as they have every style and colour imaginable but everywhere has them this season, even the supermarkets stocking clothing lines.

Why not give the blazer one more try, the blazer is probably one of the more flattering items of clothing and flatters every shape and size.

  1. Love your website girl! You go!!! You know your stuff. Where do you buy your clothes from? I’ve had bad luck from some websites as to mostly fabric differences. I find buying in US or Canada are are better quality. Does Scotland manufacture any clothing lines. I have a big souvenir budget. I’ve been saving since we first booked the trip before Covid. Let the shopping begin!

    • Thank you SUSAN. I buy from loads of different places and actually prefer online now. I do pick up quite a few pieces if I am actually out shopping but mainly from TKMAXX. I love Zara’s clothes, great colours, albeit sizing is a tad on the small side but once you find your size, you can pretty much stick with it. I like ASOS too, it’s got such a wide variety and the added bonus of actual shoppers reviewing what they have bought. Some of my best buys have been EBAY….. got some great Vivienne Westwood jeans and t-shirts, picked up a John Galliano blouse, Stella McCartney top and other bits and pieces. Another online favourite, if my budget allows, is THE OUTNET, all designer brands but they have pieces that come in at 70% off retail price. As for Scotland, we don’t really have any ‘standouts’ I’m afraid, mostly chain stores, there are a few one off boutiques spread about. Broughty Ferry actually has a couple of these type of shops, hopefully you can find something there.
